Cobre Panamá is the first copper mine to be developed in Panamá and provides exciting career opportunities for both existing and potential employees.

Panamanians and expatriates who are motivated by relocating to Cobre Panamá and helping to drive the success of a new mine will enjoy the experience of discovering a great region.

Cobre Panama represents 16% of Panama’s construction sector over next 2-3 years and once in operation, it will represent an estimate of $2B exports per year for 34+ years.

During the construction phase, we estimate there will be over 7,000 jobs created.

Quick project summary:

  • Access to the project area is via the Pan-American Highway system from Panama City to Penonome
  • The topography in the concession area is low elevation (less than 300 metres) covered by dense rainforest.
  • This project has a 30-year current mine life
  • It involves three open pits with ore mined and processed by crushing, grinding, flotation recovery, and concentrate dewatering.
  • Copper concentrates will be delivered by slurry pipeline from the concentrator to the filter plant at a new port facility on the Caribbean coast.
  • A road, buried pipelines and an overland power transmission line will link the port facility and process plant.
  • The project also includes the construction of a 300 MW power generation plant at the port.

Once the project is fully operational, the mine can produce over 320,000 tons of copper a year.

Minera Panamá S.A. is the legal name of the company in Panama. First Quantum is the owner of 90% of this company.
